Alas, our good thymes in the garden are almost over, tomorrow will be our last day. All five of us have thoroughly enjoyed working in the garden and with the animals these past three and a half weeks. We have bonded as a team and are proud of everything we have accomplished.
Last Friday a group of Sophomores from Abington High School joined us. With all the extra hands planting went quickly and we were happy to have company. Planting watermelon, cantaloupe, corn, pumpkins, flowers and various types of squash, almost all the rows have been filled! On Monday and Tuesday we added some more flowers like zinnias and snap-dragons, as well as some fennel. We’ve also been doing some detailed work, weeding and thinning the beets. However, our biggest project these past few days has been cleaning out the chicken coup. We drained and refilled the duck pond and scooped out bags full of old pine shavings from the hen house. Hopefully the chickens and ducks enjoy our spring cleaning! In other news, we have spotted at least TWO baby foxes roaming around the garden and parking lot, they are adorable so be careful not to run them over.
Before I sign off I just want to give a huge thank you to Sister Ana and everyone who has fed us these past few weeks. Your kindness and hard work are much appreciated by everyone and you all are part of what made our experience here so amazing. Thank you!
I will definitely be back to visit this summer and see how the garden is doing.
